Eighteen years ago, when the project named Castila started, we were anxious to break new ground, to build and create a permanent meeting point for those who had as an objective both Spanish and cultural interchange. In those early days, the way to achieve this was something of a mystery - exciting, but uncertain. Where would we be in 2000? How many friends would we have? What kind of experiences could we expect?

Now, even the year 2000 is far behind us. I can tell you that there are not enough stars in the universe to count all the friends  we now have, people that consider Castila as their home, another

 family, and the Carmen de los Gatos, as a steady and secure meeting point in Spain, just a few kilometres away. A place where we can come whenever we want, without any prior appointment,  haste or compromise, with the certainty that we will find a friendly face, someone who will recognize us and in whom we will recognize an important, indispensable part of our life.

With the same words, the same feelings, the same tune that Mecano* used in their song, I would like to offer a toast to every one of our students, past and present, to all our many friends, to the extended family of Castila. From our own houses, maybe without the grapes that are traditional at Spanish New Year, but with plenty of affection. It seems that 2006 lacks any special feature, it is not an end to a decade, a century or a millennium; it is only one more year… lets make it a good one.
