"Castila, an intensive learning experience, in and out the classroom"

Antonio Perales

Director

The aim of this website is to inform you about Castila, dedicated to Spanish teaching since 1988. If you are looking for a course for starting or improving your Spanish, here you have a tool for finding the best option for you, according to your needs.

COURSES

Are you thinking of learning or improving your Spanish?

Are you interested in experiencing the Spanish lifestyle?

Castila offers Intensive Spanish Courses and Specific Purposes courses related to the Spanish language and culture.

Intensive Language courses are of  4 or 6 classes daily and Specific Purposes courses consist of 2 classes daily. Many students enrol for the Intensive courses and others combine two or three different courses.

Aside from the courses, there are other elements which will determine a suitable  choice. All the Castila work is centred around guaranteeing the satisfaction of the students in the three areas that make up their stay: course, activities and accommodation.

LOCATION

Where is the school and what does it look like?

Castila is located in the the heart of  Granada, the Albaicín, the old Moorish quarter, sunny and full of narrow streets, aljibes, and little squares.

Castila is situated in the Carmen de los Gatos (a typical Granadian house with a garden, views of the Alhambra and its own name), a building carefully equipped for learning Spanish, amongst gardens and impressive views of  the Alhambra Palace and the Sierra Nevada.

LEVELS

ACTIVITIES

How will I learn Spanish there?

Six students maximum per class.

Each student's level and communication needs are assessed carefully. After which the students are put into groups with goals and contents for the entire stay. With a rotation of teachers (4 lessons, 4 teachers; 6 lessons, 6 teachers) we endeavour to provide the widest possible exposure to spoken Spanish, plus variety and learning motivation. There is always one tutor who coordinates the teachers and the development of the programme.

ACTIVITIES

What will I do after class?

On offer, 47 extracurricular activities participated in by teachers, for practising what has been learnt in the classroom and for experiencing and enjoying the culture and customs of the Spanish lifestyle.

As the school brochure says and as confirmed by those responsible: “the area of social activities is an essential part of a method that aims to teach the language by combining study and practice, with the emphasis on practical usage”.

The aim is to encourage an authentic language and cultural immersion.

ACCOMMODATION

Where will I live?

In the centre of Granada, at between 2 and 15 minutes walk from the school

You can choose between apartments, student residences or Spanish families, carefully chosen in order to complete your stay in Granada.

STUDENTS

What do the students think about Castila?

Many of them think that ‘the teachers’ are the strongest point of the school. Others stress ‘the method’. Most take Barbara Wolf’s opinion: “I’ve attended language courses in other countries and they were good, but courses here have been the best”. Almost everyone agrees with Agnès Christeler who, speaking about the soul of Castila, explains that ‘Castila is a world on its own’. Of course, not all are as warm as Annette Kusztrich: “Once Castila, always Castila. I love you”.

GUARANTEES

How to choose a Spanish programme in Spain?

To learn a language is a  complex task and all details are very important when you stay in another country. Since 1988 the staff of Castila have researched and worked carefully to make it easier and more comfortable: your arrival, your accommodation, the lessons, the school, the way of learning and the social activities… Before you make a decision, think about your needs, choose a town and assure yourself what the features of the different schools mean to you. Then it will be an enriching and memorable experience.
